气功 (Qìgōng)
Origin: Rooted in ancient Chinese philosophy and medicine, Qigong's development is closely tied to the observation of nature and the human body's energy or qi (Chi). It evolved from exercises designed by scholars and practitioners to promote health and longevity. Qi meaning air, breath or vital energy and gong meaning skill, work or cultivation.
Date: The practice of Qigong dates back over 4,000 years, with early forms found on ancient oracle bones and in historical texts. Formalized systems began to emerge during the Han Dynasty (206 BCE–220 CE), with further development during subsequent dynasties.
Description: Qigong is a mind-body-spirit practice that uses gentle movement, breathing techniques, and focused intention to cultivate and balance qi (Chi), or vital energy. It is characterized by its slow, deliberate movements, which are often coordinated with the breath in a state of calm, and meditative awareness. The practice is used to improve physical health, reduce stress, increase vitality, and promote a sense of inner peace.
